Well it looks like the conditions are going to be optimal for Kob tomorrow evening.
The North and North East that has been blowing for the last few days and is changing to a strong South West, just before 8pm. When the wind changes from East to West , the fish sense bad weather coming and go on a feeding frenzy (hopefully). You want to catch it as it changes.
My wife’s friend is coming for the weekend, which will give me “permission” to be out all night throwing my Rapala, Sliding Live Bait and donig whatever I can to get a fish on the other end of my line.
Midnight also signals the end of the Shad Season, so if I am lucky enough to pick one up at night – I will most definitely slide him in the hope of picking up a big Kob. Boy, oh Boy will that not be nice.
I am going to take a chance and use carbon coated wire for my live-bait-sliding-trace. I have heard that Kob don’t really like wire traces, but if a shark picks the bait up I am not going to complain either – so I am going in protected.
If the conditions are kind, perhaps a nice juicy throw bait will be in order….. mmmmm come fishy fishies.
Thanks for visiting ShanesFishing, have a great day. Catch up on Saturday, hopefully with some photos of some nice FISH.

Hi Jan, thanks for the message.
Ja… the Throw-Bait … a source of dread for many fishermen.
I picked up a few tricks from my buddies at Sealine, cos I was having problems with the bait sliding up the line when it hits the water.
Here are the replies. http://www.sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=46930&forum_id=23
I will take some photos of the next throw bait that I make, to show you.
Also, clipping the sinker onto the hook is the best way to actually cast it.
Catch up soon – Shane
hi shane. i am in margate this weekend. are u fishing?
Howzit Shane,
Thanks for the awesome website! It’s my only link to the deep blue all the way from up here in JHB! I’m also going fishing this weekend but being 800km away the Vaaldam will do!!!
I was wondering if you can give me some pointers on your throw bait. Mine always looks like a “woer-woer” when I throw it but you seem to hook your grapnel onto it? I’d appreciate it if you can give me some pointers not to look like a real Valie…
Good luck with the fishing tonight and hope you get lucky with the feeding frenzy!
Cheers for now…
